My name is Jeremy. I have been obsessed with musical instruments for most of my life, and decided to start SFGuitarTech as an extension of that obsession. I’ve played, worked on, and studied guitars for over 25 years, also dabbling in drums, bass, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele during those years. I’ll sit for hours with any instrument you give me, so feel free bring it if it’s weird. My main goal is to make sure a musical instrument is as easy and reliable to pick up when the inspiration to play strikes.
I received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Arts from San Francisco State in 2008 (Go Gators!) out of my desire to design and make things, and after graduation started working as a luthier (What the heck is a luthier?) at a small San Francisco guitar company that made carbon fiber acoustic guitars. I spent 5 years working my way from an intern to the head luthier, doing a lot of learning along the way that developed into my desire to start SFGT. I learned a lot about CNC machining, CAD, composites, carpentry, abrasives, materials and finishing while there, skills I still rely on heavily while working on instruments.
I’ve lived in San Francisco since 2004, and I run SFGT out of my garage right at the border of San Francisco and Daly City. I have a black cat named Books, and a White cat named Pages. When I’m not working on guitars, I’ve dabbled in lots of hobbies like photography, fishing, model building, motorcycles, biking, and general space nerdery. I own somewhere between 15-30 musical instruments (who’s counting?), and like long walks on the beach at sunset.
